What medication do you use for the symptoms of Asthma?

Its 5 A.M. and I have been up coughing and wheezing again. This has been going on for over a week. Went to the doctor and he gave me an antibiotic, which has been useless as I knew it would be. I am so weary of this coughing and tightness in the chest. I have probably only slept 8 hours all week. So, what do you use when you get like this. I have Ventolin and take Advair but this coughing is driving me nuts not to mention to the point of exhaustion. Cough syrup is a joke.
